Program Officer, Inquiry, Practice, & Leadership

Pooja Bhaskar (they/them/theirs) is a Program Officer for Inquiry, Practice, & Leadership at MƒA. In this role, they concentrate on fellowship engagement and develop inquiry, practice, and leadership-focused professional programming for MƒA teachers.

Before joining MƒA, Pooja taught biology and biotechnology for 11 years in the NYC DOE, most recently at Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice and the International High School for Health Sciences. They were an MƒA Master Teacher from 2016-2023, facilitating the LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group, biotechnology courses and STEAM courses, while also participating in the Equity Advisory Committee. As a teacher, they were involved with STEM Ed Innovators, Fund for Teachers, Columbia Teacher Scholar program and Earthwatch Project Kindle. They are passionate about interdisciplinary project based education, socio-emotional learning, and restorative justice.

Pooja earned a B.A. in Religion from Reed College and a M.A. in Science Education with a specialization in Biology from CUNY Brooklyn College. They live in the South Bronx and always want to talk about cooking, reading, making art, and traveling.
