Vice President of Special Projects

Ishrat Ahmed (she/her) is the Vice President of Special Projects at MƒA, where she leads and supervises the MƒA Cohort Project, focusing on providing STEM enrichment opportunities to students in partner schools. In this role, Ishrat explores how complementing the work of MƒA teachers in New York City high schools might contribute to more students from low-income families successfully pursuing STEM majors in college. With experience as a mathematics teacher, teacher educator, and education researcher, she is driven by her commitment to equity and joy in schools for teachers, students, and their families. 

Before joining MƒA as staff, Ishrat spent nine years with the NYC Department of Education as a mathematics teacher and was a former MƒA Master Teacher. She also served as the Director of Mathematics Education at the Teaching Experience for Undergraduates in New York City, working with STEM majors interested in possible careers as a STEM teacher. She also teaches at Barnard College. 

Ishrat earned her B.A. in Mathematics and Psychology from Barnard College, and her M.A. in Mathematics Education from Teachers College, where she is currently working towards completing her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education. She lives in Brooklyn with her partner and enjoys spending time with her family and friends when she’s not traveling to try new and delicious foods.
