The Riverdale Press wrote a lengthy feature story about how MƒA provides NYC math and science teachers support and opportunities to lead, learn, and grow, focusing on interviews with first year MƒA Master Teacher Jamie DeMartino and MƒA President John Ewing. In it, DeMartino shared her excitement about learning new ways to teach content through her MƒA fellowship:

“Math is not especially more difficult” to get students engaged in, she said. “They like the immediate feedback, to prove they’re right or wrong. After becoming a part of MƒA, I want to push the thinking of my students even further.”

While MƒA brings teachers together to explore and better understand their students’ thinking, Ewing spoke about other benefits of the fellowship.  

The fellowship makes teachers feel respected in their career and feel like a part of something bigger than themselves. “To model what teaching should be like,” Ewing said.
