It is with great sadness that we share the news about the death of MƒA Founder, Mathematician and Investor Jim Simons.

The full announcement was posted this morning on the Simons Foundation public information page.

Jim was a highly regarded mathematician and one of history's most successful quantitative investors. As a philanthropist, he supported ambitious mathematics and science projects with his wife, Marilyn, that were unlikely to find funding elsewhere. He founded Math for America in 2004 and remained an active board member until the end of his life.

Jim’s steadfast commitment to education profoundly impacted the lives of thousands of teachers and students in NYC and beyond. MƒA will always be guided by Jim’s respect for teachers as true professionals and his firm belief that great teachers must know the subjects they teach.

Jim is survived by his wife, three children, five grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and countless colleagues, friends, and family who fondly recall his genuine curiosity and quick wit.
