What is the PDO Group?
Sponsored by Math for America and the IAS/Park City Mathematics Institute, the New York City-based Professional Development and Outreach (PDO) Group supports secondary school mathematics teachers through mathematics workshops and other outreach activities. The NYC PDO Group was created in 2008, and there are other PDO Groups around the country.

There is no registration fee for participants, and all materials are provided by MƒA. Monthly meetings are located at the Math for America office, 160 Fifth Ave. (entrance on 21st St.), New York, NY. Coffee and refreshments are served, and for full-day sessions, lunch is included.

Sample daily schedule:
  9:00  -   9:30 a.m.  Sign-in
  9:30  - 10:30 a.m.  Invited Guest Session
10:30  - 12:00 p.m.  Session 1: Introductory exploration
12:00  -   1:00 p.m.  Lunch break (Note: Lunch not provided by MƒA)
  1:00  -   3:30 p.m.  Session 2: Open-ended exploration

2011-2012 Course Information
Math for America and the NYC Department of Education After School Professional Development Program are proud to offer a P in-service course designed to explore the mathematics that influence the world around us, focusing on mathematical modeling. Each session will include a presentation by an invited guest speaker, and the opportunity for participants to engage in interesting problems, discussions, and some related classroom-based explorations. The content and design of these workshops are consistent with in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and NY State’s Learning Standards for Mathematics. This course is being offered free of charge. Participants will earn 3 P in-service credits for their participation. For more information about past workshop sessions, take a look at the session abstracts.

P-Credit Participants
"P" In-service courses are high quality, convenient, low-cost alternatives to traditionally offered college courses for public school teachers and secretaries that may be applied toward salary differential requirements and towards the New York State 175 hour professional development requirement. This year's P-credit course will run from August 2011 through February 2012. If you are a New York City DOE teacher, please register here for the course.

The Math for America Office is located at 160 Fifth Avenue, 8th Floor (Note: building entrance is on 21st Street), New York, NY 10010. Take the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, L, or W train to Union Square station, or take the F, V, R, 6 or 1 train to 23rd Street Station.
