2013-2014 Course Information
Math for America and the NYC Department of Education After School Professional Development Program will offer a P in-service course during the 2013-14 school year. The course will begin August 20, 2013. Participants will be able to sculpt constructive geometric models that deal with patterns and relationships derived from classical ideals of balance and symmetry. Mathematical yet organic, these abstract models of geometrical 3-D and 4-D constructions will help invite teachers to use models as a way of teaching students geometry. We will use a variety of materials, including paper, plastic, zome tools, and assemblages of common household objects. The content and design of these workshops are consistent with in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and NY State’s Learning Standards for Mathematics. This course is being offered free of charge. Participants will earn three P in-service credits for their participation. For more information about past workshop sessions, take a look at the session abstracts.

P-Credit Participants
"P" In-service courses are high quality, convenient, low-cost alternatives to traditionally offered college courses for New York City public school teachers and secretaries that may be applied toward salary differential requirements and towards the New York State 175 hour professional development requirement. This year's P-credit course will run from August 2013 through February 2014. Math for America is currently waiting for NYC DoE approval of this course. If you are NYC DoE teacher, please continue to check the DoE P-credit course website to register for the course.
