Treva Chadwell joined Math for America as a New Teacher Advisor in April 2009. In this role, she mentors and supports MƒA Fellows in the New York program, providing classroom and programmatic assistance to the cohort.
Treva has over 13 years of experience teaching mathematics – from 6th grade math to Pre-Calculus – in public schools in Austin, Texas. During this time, she conceptualized and published study materials for the Texas state exams and helped to develop curriculum at every level. Treva has presented her ideas and best practices at numerous state level workshops. Treva has also supervised student teachers and served as a new teacher mentor and math lead teacher. Previously, she worked on the Positive Behavior Support initiative to foster a safe, civil, educational environment at all schools regardless of demographics.
In addition to teaching, Treva worked for Apple Computer for four years and developed the training program for the National Education Sales Organization. A food enthusiast, Treva recently pursued a culinary degree from The Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. She has worked for The Food Network in the test kitchen and on productions for television, and teaches cooking classes at several cooking schools on Long Island.
Treva is an avid gardener who believes that homegrown tomatoes taste better than candy. She also enjoys walking her dog and visiting with the neighbors on the sidewalk. Treva lives in Port Washington, NY with her husband John, her daughter Emi, her dog Ginger and cat Sassy.
