Rachel Mecane

Rachel Mecane is a New Teacher Advisor at Math for America New York. In this position, she provides guidance and mentoring to MƒA Fellows throughout the Fellowship and in the classroom.

An educator with over twenty years of experience, Rachel most recently was an education and special education mathematics instructor at Brooklyn College. Prior to that, she handled professional development in the UFT Teacher Center at Thomas Jefferson Campus High Schools in Brooklyn, New York. She has held roles as an instructor in the Skillful Teacher Course at Brooklyn College and math coach at the High School for Public Service and International Arts and Business School in Brooklyn. She also taught mathematics at Brooklyn College Academy High School. Rachel worked in the New York City Board of Education Alternative Superintendent’s Office, handling professional development in mathematics, and also served as Director in the Office of Postsecondary Planning for the New York City Board of Education. In addition, Rachel has been a mathematics teacher and mathematics staff developer in New York City public schools.

Rachel received her Master’s in Educational Technology from Iona College and B.A. from the College of New Rochelle. Rachel lives on Staten Island with her husband Paul and their son Gregory. In her spare time she is participates in local community service projects, and she enjoys reading and attending monthly meetings for the book club she co-founded.
