Kathy Blozy

Kathy Blozy is a New Teacher Advisor at MƒA NY, where she provides guidance and mentoring to MƒA Fellows as they begin their teaching careers.

An educator with nearly 20 years of mathematics teaching and coaching experience, Kathy is currently a part-time mathematics coach/teacher at the Bushwick School for Social Justice. In this role, she mentors mathematics teachers through ongoing observation and assistance with lesson planning, and she also helps students pass their Regents exams. A bulk of her past New York City mathematics teaching experience was spent at Landmark High School, later as a mathematic coach and the math/science chairperson where she developed problem-based mathematics curriculums and physics curriculums. She also taught mathematics at John Jay College’s College Now Program. Her first teaching position in New York City was through the Peace Corps Fellows Program at Enrico Fermi Junior High School. Kathy then spent time mentoring mathematics and science teachers through the Peace Corps Fellows Program at Columbia University. Her first teaching position was with the Peace Corps in Malawi, Africa where Kathy taught algebra, geometry, trigonometry, arithmetic, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics and probability to high school students.

Kathy earned a Master of Education and Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Mathematics Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a B.S. in mathematics from Dickinson College. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband (also a math teacher and a mentor teacher with MƒA) and three children (Jake, 8, Luke, 6 and Tessa, 4). Kathy enjoys running, reading, traveling, camping, hiking, playing the piano and playing games with her wonderful family.
