As a New Teacher Advisor at Math for America New York, Heather Howell mentors and advises MƒA New York Fellows, both in the classroom and throughout the program experience.
Heather is also a graduate student at NYU, where she is pursuing her Ph.D. in math education. Prior to NYU, Heather was a mathematics teacher at Bard High School Early College (BHSEC). At BHSEC, Heather was responsible for planning and teaching ninth and tenth grade mathematics courses and freshman and sophomore courses in the college program, including College Algebra, College Pre-calculus, Geometry and Connections to Art, Geometry and Mathematics of Design. Heather assisted in developing the Geometry sequence at BHSEC and created technology-based assignments and classroom exercises that were integrated into that sequence.
Heather has also taught at the University of Idaho, where she coordinated the Polya Extended Program, an outreach program for Secondary Mathematics Teachers in rural high schools in Idaho. In addition, she taught ESL classes to students in Colombia.
Heather has master’s degrees in both mathematics and mathematics education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
