As an Early Career Advisor at Math for America New York, Susan provides support, encouragement and guidance to MƒA Early Career Fellows as they strengthen their mathematics teaching skills.
Susan recently retired after more than 28 years with the NYC DOE where she first taught mathematics at Brandeis and Murry Bergtraum High Schools, and later was a staff developer for the Manhattan High Schools Superintendency, coordinated middle and high school professional development for Community District 2 and then worked as a coach and mathematics specialist for middle and high schools in Region 9.
Her experience also includes supervising student teachers and teaching as an adjunct professor at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education and lead teacher and instructor at Rutgers University’s Leadership Program in Discrete Mathematics.
Susan received her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Plymouth in Devon, England, and an M.A. from Columbia University Teachers College. She has presented workshops and talks in the U.S., The Netherlands, Spain, Germany and England. A native New Yorker, her other interests include New York City history, British literature and studying classical guitar.
