Jendayi “Jenny” Harmon is a Senior Program Associate at Math for America New York, a position she has held since October 2007. At MƒA, Jenny supports first year Fellows with planning and professional development opportunities and provides guidance for job placement and classroom preparation. In addition, Jenny oversees MƒA New Teacher Advisors working with Fellows in their first and second year of teaching.
Prior to joining MƒA, Jenny acted as a high school mathematics teacher in Riverdale, Georgia. In this position, she was the first place Varsity and Junior Varsity Math Team Coach, Key Club advisor and a mentor to first year teachers.
Jenny completed a full time master’s degree program in Mathematics at Southern University at Baton Rouge, where she defended her thesis on Cryptography. She began her master’s program at The University of North Carolina in Charlotte. During her studies, Jenny conducted extensive research in mathematics and mathematics education. Working with North Carolina State University, NASA and NSF, she concluded research on topics such as: "Cryptography: Developing Secret Code Systems;" "Simulation as a Teaching Tool;" "Forecasting in the Furniture Industry;" and "Pedagogical tasks and their relationships to prospective teachers' uses of a video-case to examine students' work when solving mathematical tasks using technology."
Jenny received her Bachelor’s degree from Alabama A&M University in Secondary Mathematics Education. Currently a resident of Brooklyn, NY, Jenny loves walking to Target, meeting new people, shopping and wearing flats everywhere she goes.
