The New York City-based Professional Development and Outreach (PDO) Group supports secondary school mathematics teachers in the five boroughs through mathematics workshops and other outreach activities. The NYC PDO Group is sponsored by Math for America and the IAS/Park City Mathematics Institute.
The theme of the 2009 NYC PDO is Mathematics and Urban Life: Modeling the World Around Us. Along side some of the leading researchers and practitioners in the world, participants will explore how new and traditional mathematics is everywhere in urban life, including garbage collection, the election of representatives bodies, public transportation, and government services.
