With over 1,600 schools and 1.1 million students, the New York City Department of Education is the largest public school system in the world. Math for America Fellows and Master Teachers teach in a variety of NYC public secondary schools. In addition to traditional schools, there are Career and Technical Education Schools, where students receive instruction in an industry-related area. There are also Charter Schools, which are independent and governed by their own not-for-profit boards of trustees, as well as nine Specialized High Schools, where admission is based on admissions test scores. Visit the NYC DOE for more information and data about school options and enrollment.
