2009-2010 Course Information
The theme of the 2009-2010 NYC PDO is “Mathematics and Urban Life: Modeling the World Around Us." Facilitated by Kelly Gaddis, Associate Professor of Math Education at Bard College and Joseph Malkevitch, Professor of Mathematics at York College (CUNY), participants will explore how new and traditional mathematics is everywhere in urban life, including garbage collection, the election of representatives bodies, public transportation, and government services. Each session will contain a presentation by an invited guest speaker, and participants will have the opportunity to engage in interesting problems, discussions, and related classroom-based explorations. For more information about the specific workshop sessions, take a look at the session abstracts.
