The MƒA Thursday Think Speaker Series brings accomplished speakers who dive into cutting-edge topics in STEM education to MƒA. These talks, held once a month throughout the school year, invite MƒA teachers and the general public to learn and engage with these thought leaders and professionals in mathematics, science, and education.

It is an exciting time for learning sciences! New digital technologies are increasingly available and many have direct implications for teaching and learning.

In this talk, Dr. Jan Plass summarizes how our understanding of learning has shifted from a transmission model to a constructivist model, focusing on the skills today’s youth will need to succeed professionally. Dr. Plass also discusses current trends in digital technologies that foster new forms of learning, including play, extended reality (VR, AR, MR), and artificial intelligence, and how teachers can leverage them to increase student interest and learning outcomes.
